Bad hand or not I must post and ask for your help - from the ARL site :

"Part of a bill that is on the desk of the Governor calls for canines in commercial licensed facilities to be categorized as farm products and agricultural production.

Dogs do not belong in these categories, and if they are, we are concerned what it will mean for their protection and status in Iowa courts.

Please call or write the Governor and ask him to line item veto those references."

The concern is that they'll lose all the hard-fought and partially won anti cruelty protection they've won.

That makes me sick!!! The legislation for "farm animals" allows such gross negligence as it is...to add dogs to it is Sick, Sad and WRONG.

I'll be cross posting this to the 'animal boards'

That's horrible! Does the Humane Society know about this? They might be able to issue a petition too.

Thanks everyone! Our cruelty laws are minimal but new and we sure don't want to lose what little we've got for the sake of giving puppy mills a tax break on their puppy food! I'm sure it's quality stuff they're buying! Those who are pushing it advise it will help get puppy mills to become licensed kennels - uh huh, I'm sure!

Bet you haven't been the first from out of state! I'm waiting for a "response to my email - they tell me it will come by snail mail - probably a form letter but we'll see. T

he news was kind of moved down a step by the news of another "raid" on an animal collector - they took some 176 animals living in filth for the SECOND TIME from these people - good intentioned I suppose but still wacko! I'm sure the animal rescue league will bring it back to their attention.
